Dental cleaning is recommended every six months to prevent tooth decay and gingivitis. For patients with severe gum disease, the doctor or hygienist may recommend having a deep cleaning done followed by every 3-4 months of dental cleaning called periodontal maintenance. Every 3-4 months, periodontal maintenance is necessary until the doctor sees an improvement in your gums. Once there is an improvement in the gingival health, the doctor will put you back again on six months recall. There should be a balance between the plaque building up on the teeth and mechanical cleaning done by the patient. If the building process is severe, and cleaning done by the patient is inadequate, then more frequent cleanings are necessary.
Benefits of Dental Cleaning
If regular cleanings are not done, gum disease can chronically lead to bone loss under the gums. Eventually, gum disease can lead to tooth loss and is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. Proper oral hygiene and regular dental cleaning can help avoid gum disease. For further information Schedule Appointment or call (860)595-3903
