General Dentistry

General dentistry includes a number of commonly done procedures at the dentist’s office. Few of these procedures are either done by a hygienist or a dentist. In most cases, Exam, X-rays, Cleaning, and Sealants are done on the first visit the patient comes to the dental office. Finally, a patient’s Treatment Plan is created which will decide the patient’s future appointments and their priorities.

Digital X-rays

Digital X-rays are a very important part of diagnosing dental disease. Furthermore, Digital x-rays can record radiographs with much less amount of x-rays compared to traditional film x-rays. Although all the treatments are not needed for all the patients, X-rays are recommended for almost all patients, and even for pregnant patients. Dental Cleaning

X-rays and Treatment Planning are followed by a dental cleaning. A dental cleaning can be completed on the day of the exam if the patient doesn’t have a large amount of calculus and deposits. If the cleaning involves scaling and root planning, it is scheduled at the later date. read more

Sealants

Sealants are essential for preventing cavities. Teeth have central fissures on the chewing surface. The dentist seals the fissure to prevent food lodging. Once the fissure has a cavity, a dental filling is recommended. read more

Fillings

After a cavity has formed, the dentist can remove the cavity and replace it with fillings. Filling materials include gold, silver, or composite (white). read more
