Toothache – Tooth Abscess

Tooth abscess is an infection of the tooth.

Reasons for tooth abscess

  • Periodontal disease
  • Dental Decay involving pulp
  • Tooth cracked
  • Excessive tooth wear involving pulp

Any of the above reasons can allow the bacteria to enter the tooth pulp and lead to necrosis of the pulp. Infected pulp builds up pus which accumulates at the bottom of the tooth lifting the tooth up. It feels as if the infected tooth is the only tooth touching on bite.

Symptoms of tooth abscess:

  • pain ( dolor)
  • swelling ( tumor)
  • redness  ( rubor)
  • fever ( calor)
  • reduce chewing function ( functio laesa)
  • bad taste in the mouth
